This is a very interesting blog and I'm glad I found it. I'm an illustrator who's doing a comix version of "The Hunting of the Snark" … it's been languishing on several publisher's desks and perhaps in some future posting you could discuss which publishers are genuinely open to high-quality, literary comix for kids & teens.
My snark is languishing on-line at http://justtheplaceforasnark.blogspot.com/ but he (or she) prefers a print habitat!
Best of luck!
Dear Ms. Mouly,
I just read about your Toon Books publishing venture. I am extremely excited by this. Years ago, I tried to interest Marvel in a comic book that was for younger KIDS that they or their parent could read to them. Fun, engaging material that wasn't tied into a toy or TV show. It completely frustrates me that 99% of the comics produced these days are geared for 40 year old men. Best of luck to you. The samples I saw on your website look fantastic, especially the book by Jay Lynch and Frank Cammuso.
Sincerely,
Gary Fields
Mahendra, your work looks wonderful, and you are doing the right thing to keep at it in spite of the lack of interest from publishers. Best of luck to you!
Gary, thank you for the kind words. Let's all hope that the tide will soon turn, and that main-stream publishers will start taking chances on innovative work outside of established categories. Cheers!
